It’s been a mere twenty-one days since the beginning of NaNoWriMo. I started out the month with the expectations that I might just be able to finish 50,000 words by the end of the month. But I’m at 46,161 as of last night. I haven’t started today’s writing session, which I’ll tackle later this evening between getting home and eating dinner.
I may just burn the midnight oil, too. There’s something liberating about late-night writing sessions. Everything I need to do can wait until tomorrow, so that makes me relax. I can focus just on my writing. The problem then is that I often wake up in the middle of the night with ideas of how I need to change the plot or reword a paragraph. Oh well, better than a nightmare about doing dishes.
Persistence is key. I even joined a couple of word wars to stay motivated, and it’s been working pretty well. I did not realize how motivated I could be by the simple counting of words. But here I am at 46,161, and the story is not going to finish in another 4,000 words. I’m expecting to hit the 50,000 word mark tonight, but I think my story arc is only about sixty percent along its path. But what do I know? I haven’t written a novel before, so I’m not even sure where my characters are going. All I know is that they keep having accidents. And the sea monster hasn’t even made an appearance yet!
Well, back to my novel. I’ll see you on Thursday for more writing prompts.
