I’ve been back from the Steampunk World’s Fair for less than a week now and still haven’t gotten back into full work mode. Next week is another short week so I feel like it’s going to take some time to settle back into a routine. Meanwhile, there is a lot of writing to be done. I need to write a book review and start a research paper, finish revising a proposal, and edit the next chapter in my novel, which got shoved to the side at the beginning of the month for other things.
For this week’s Thursday Writing Prompt I’m going to offer you another photo idea to jump-start your creative juices. Imagine that you have just received this postcard in the mail from an acquaintance that you’ve only just met a few weeks ago. Write a message for the back of the postcard. What would this person have to say to you?
If the postcard message gives you an idea for a story, write that as a separate project, but do write the postcard message to give yourself something of a starting point. You might want to consider setting your story in an alternate time, since the image above looks as though it may have come out of the 1950s or 1960s. Perhaps the acquaintance got sucked back in time?
Have fun and don’t worry about the physics of time travel for your postcard message. Leave that for the novel it’s going to inspire!
